*Book presentation Aigües de llibertat by Cristina Canamases, 14th Book award “Premi de Narrativa Marítima Vila de Cambrils Josep Lluís Savall 2024”. At 7pm at Casa Irla (65-69 Algavira st). Aigües de llibertat explains the life of 3 characters in the 19th century. Bakari, an African teenager, is captured and submitted to the brutality of slavery, but he keeps the faith on recovering his dignity. Andreu, a Catalan young man, travels to Havana, dreaming on prosperity, without guessing the moral dilemmas he will have to face. Rosa, recently widow, inherits a sugar plantation in Cuba and fights to keep her business. This novel talks about the cruelty of slavery, the dreams of freedom and the complexity of relationships among cultures and social classes in a time defined by inequality. Free activity.
